Scuba

What It Feels Like

Kos scuba is relaxed, local and accessible. Most visitors dive from shore-linked dive centers or small boats, with short runs to Kastri, Three Rocks, Skala and Krikelos, plus weather-dependent excursions to Pserimos and Nisyros. Expect Aegean visibility, rocky reef profiles, sponges, octopus, nudibranchs, wrasse, sea bream, scorpionfish, lionfish and occasional bigger schooling fish near wrecks and walls. The best season is May to October, with September and October offering a strong balance of warm water, fewer crowds and easing Meltemi wind.

Signature Sites

Start Here

  • Kastri Islet Reef

A scenic Kefalos classic near Agios Stefanos, with shallow reef structure, schooling fish, sponges and easy profiles for training, refreshers and relaxed photography.

  • Three Rocks

A local boat site with rocky canyons, swimthrough feeling and chances for barracuda, wrasse, octopus and wideangle Aegean scenery.

  • Krikelos

A more adventurous southwest route with colorful sponges, wall sections and drift potential for divers who are comfortable with changing surface conditions.

Level Up

  • The Potteries

A shallow Pserimos site known for ancient amphoras and reef life.

  • The Gardens

A photogenic Pserimos reef with gardenlike sponge and rock structure, octopus, morays, stingray potential and easy shallow time around {{ 12 | distance:m }}.

Advanced

  • Thor Star Wreck

Kos' signature wreck excursion lies off Pserimos.

  • Therma Archway Tunnel

A volcanicfeeling route near the thermal spring zone, with rock arches, bubbles and warmwater influence when conditions and local rules allow.

Planning Playbook

Operator Checklist

Book early in July and August, and ask whether the operator is running Kefalos local sites, Pserimos wreck days, Nisyros safaris or only training dives during your dates. Weather can change the route, especially for Pserimos, Nisyros and exposed wall sites. Bring proof of certification, a recent logbook entry and dive insurance. If you have not dived for more than six months, expect a refresher before deeper or wreck profiles. Respect archaeological rules at amphora sites and never remove anything from the seabed.
