Cold, clear quarry diving through Germany's submerged industrial history
Overview
Kreidesee Hemmoor is one of Germany's defining inland dive destinations: a spring-fed former chalk quarry with steep white walls, submerged forest, training platforms and industrial relics. The lake reaches about 60 m. Average visibility is roughly 10 m to 20 m, with exceptional conditions near 40 m. Diving is shore-based through a highly developed lake-side dive center. The main planning issue is cold water, not current: exposure protection, redundant regulators, buoyancy and certification-linked depth limits matter.
Explore quarry roads, machinery, vehicles and purpose-placed attractions in clear freshwater.
Shallow training platforms lead to a quarry reaching about 60 m.
On-site fills, mixed gases, rentals, maps, toilets, camping and adjacent holiday accommodation support multi-day diving.
