When to go
Cabo de Palos is diveable yearround with local operators, but the easiest allaround trip is May to October.
Best overall window
Warmest water, busiest dive schedule, strongest beach atmosphere, and frequent calm morning windows. Expect water around 24°C to 28°C in the warmest part of the season.
Outside that window
Quieter local diving, colder water around 15°C to 16°C, and more weatherdependent boats. Best for trained divers with local flexibility.
Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.
The overall row stays visible so you can compare it against the currently selected scope.

Large groupers and barracuda schools
Best for Scuba
Year-round
The reserve's most reliable spectacle is not one species in one month, but the yearround density of groupers, barracuda, and reef fish around protected ridges.
Late-summer bait fish and pelagic action
Best for Scuba, Freedive
Aug to Oct
Warmwater months can bring dense bait fish and hunting predators such as dentex, amberjack, and jacks, especially around exposed ridges when conditions align.
Ocean sunfish chance
Best for Scuba
Sep to Dec
Local operators sometimes report mola mola encounters in the cooler transition from late autumn into early winter.
Posidonia and juvenile fish season
Best for Snorkel, Freedive, Scuba
May to Sep
Warm months make the shallow Posidonia edges and rocky coves more comfortable for snorkelers and freedivers watching juvenile Mediterranean life.
Calblanque coastal birding and hiking
Best for Topside
Oct to Apr
Cooler months suit nondivers who want quieter beaches, coastal trails, and wetland or scrubland wildlife in Calblanque and nearby protected areas.
