Fees And Permits
Confirm these fees before you book so your operator plan and day budget match what you will pay onsite.
Fees You Can't Skip
- Mount Pico hiking registration (Casa da Montanha) - Varies (per-person registration fee)
- ETIAS travel authorization (not yet operational) - Not required until late 2026
- Typical payment pattern: Pico does not operate like tagbased marine park destinations.
What people usually pay
Pico does not operate like tag-based marine park destinations. There is no universal diver tag for the island, but some activities require registration or structured access. Budget for offshore boat trips, and plan for Mount Pico registration if hiking. Entry rule changes (EES now, ETIAS later) are administrative requirements rather than local permits.
| Fee | Amount | Applies to | Where to pay | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mount Pico hiking registration (Casa da Montanha) | Varies (per-person registration fee) per climb | All hikers | Casa da Montanha (trailhead registration) and any official reservation channels provided locally | Fees and procedures can change and may vary by route or add-ons. Register before starting, follow safety guidance, and consider using a guide if you are not confident in mountain conditions. |
| ETIAS travel authorization (not yet operational) | Not required until late 2026 TBD | Visa-exempt non-EU travelers to Schengen (when launched) | Official EU ETIAS site once the application system opens | As of current EU guidance, ETIAS is expected to start operations in the last quarter of 2026. Beware of unofficial websites claiming to sell ETIAS early. |
