When To Go

Season planner for Pico Island

Pico is an oceanic destination where conditions and wildlife windows matter as much as temperatures. For most travelers, the best balance is late spring through early autumn: warmer water (often 20°C to 24°C), more frequent calm sea windows, and peak pelagic activity offshore. Winter and early spring can still deliver diving, but swell, wind, and ferry or boat cancellations become more likely. If your trip is built around Princesa Alice or blue sharks, book enough days to wait for the right forecast.

Ideal: Warmest water and more frequent calm days for rocky entries and tide pools.

Plan Carefully: Swell and wind can make coastal access unsafe. Snorkel only in sheltered areas and only with conservative judgment.

If you want easy snorkeling, prioritize summer and ask locals which bathing areas are calm that day.

Mount Pico summit success depends on weather.
