What It Feels Like

Rainbow Reef is one of Fiji's most colorful local-boat dive areas, with tide-fed soft-coral walls, swim-throughs, reef tops, fish schools, and occasional pelagic encounters in the Somosomo Strait. The experience is guided and condition-led: operators may choose Great White Wall, Purple Wall, Fish Factory, or calmer alternatives depending on tide, current, and diver comfort.

Signature Sites

Start Here

  • Purple Wall

A currentfed wall with purple soft corals, sea whips, gorgonians, and the possibility of passing pelagics.

  • Cabbage Patch

Known for cabbagelike hard coral formations and a photogenic reefscape that can work for divers and snorkelers when surface conditions cooperate.

  • Fish Factory

A fishy Rainbow Reef site with colorful reef life, schooling activity, and depth options often suitable for a broad range of guided divers.

Level Up

  • The Zoo

A lively currentinfluenced site where guides may look for larger fish, reef sharks, barracuda, and manta potential when seasonal plankton and conditions align.

Advanced

  • Great White Wall

    The bucketlist Rainbow Reef dive: a swimthrough around {{ 15 | distance:m }} that opens onto a white softcoral wall often enjoyed around {{ 25 | distance:m }} to {{ 30 | distance:m }}.

Planning Playbook

Operator Checklist

  • Book with operators that publish or explain Great White Wall tide windows, and keep your week flexible rather than demanding one site on one date. Bring your certification card, computer, SMB, and reef hook only if your operator explicitly allows it. Ask whether nitrox is available before arrival. Divers prone to seasickness should dose before exposed crossings, especially in windier months.
