Overview
The Tremiti Islands combine clear-water Adriatic diving with a compact, boat-based island escape. The official marine park lists roughly 40 sites around San Domino, San Nicola, Caprara and Cretaccio, ranging from easy caves and shallow archaeology to current-swept shoals and walls reaching 60 m. Wrecks, amphora remains, the submerged San Pio statue, Posidonia meadows and coralligenous habitat add unusual depth to a small destination. Most visitors stay on pine-covered San Domino, dive with an authorized local center and cross to fortress-crowned San Nicola for history. Pianosa is different: it is an integral Zone A reserve where landing, navigation within the protected perimeter, swimming and diving are prohibited. The best-balanced trips fall in late spring or September, while July and August bring the warmest water, fullest boat schedules and the largest day-trip crowds.
The 1989 marine protected area combines integral reserve, general reserve and partial reserve zones, with explicit controls on diving, fishing, navigation and mooring.
The park's official map lists roughly 40 routes from easy shallow caves to shoals and walls with maximum depths of 60 m.
Roman amphora cargoes, marble blocks, the Garibaldi-era steamer Il Lombardo and other wreck traces turn several dives into archaeological journeys.
Easy San Domino and San Nicola sites suit newer divers, while Caprara shoals, current-exposed walls and technical routes reward advanced teams.
