Zeeland is primarily a drive destination. Divers from the Netherlands, Belgium, western Germany, northern France, and Luxembourg usually arrive by car with personal equipment, then move between dike entries, fills, accommodation, and tide windows.
International visitors can fly to Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, or Brussels Airport. Rail and bus connections reach larger Zeeland towns, but they do not solve the last-mile problem for dispersed shore sites and heavy cylinders. A rental car with adequate wet-gear protection is the practical default.

A useful international alternative for travelers combining Belgium and Zeeland, with direct road access from the south.

A car is strongly recommended. Dive sites are spread along dikes and harbors, tide windows can be early or late, and wet cylinders are impractical on regional buses. Protect the vehicle with tubs or mats and avoid changing where it blocks cycle paths, farm access, emergency routes, or residents.
As of September 5, 2026, the Zeelandbrug is closed to motor traffic from September 1 through October 12, 2026 for major bascule-bridge works. The province directs vehicles via signed detours. The closure can materially change drive times between Zierikzee-side and north-south site clusters, so check the official roadworks page on every dive day.
The Netherlands is in the Schengen Area. EU, EEA, and Swiss travelers should carry a valid passport or accepted national identity card according to their citizenship. Other travelers need a valid passport and may need a Schengen visa; many visa-exempt visitors are limited to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period.
The Entry Exit System became fully operational on April 10, 2026 for covered non-EU short-stay travelers and records entry, exit, document, facial-image, and fingerprint data. ETIAS was not yet operating on the September 5, 2026 research date and was expected later in 2026. Do not pay an unofficial ETIAS site before the EU announces the exact start. Always verify nationality-specific requirements immediately before travel.
Local dive centers around Scharendijke, Den Osse, and the wider Zeeland circuit can provide air or nitrox, rental cylinders, weights, instruction, and guided dives. Reserve ahead for cuttlefish weekends, summer holidays, and large club groups.
Flying divers should rent cylinders and weights locally. Airlines normally require cylinders to be empty with valves removed or otherwise prepared under carrier rules, which makes personal-cylinder travel inefficient. Bring regulators rated for cold water, exposure protection, lights, compass, DSMB, spool, cutting tool, spare parts, and certification cards. Confirm DIN or yoke compatibility with the chosen center before arrival.
Euro (EUR)
Debit and credit cards are widely accepted, including contactless payment. Keep a small cash reserve for a seasonal kiosk, club payment, parking backup, or small harbor business that does not accept the visitor's card.
ATMs are concentrated in larger towns such as Zierikzee, Goes, Middelburg, and Vlissingen rather than remote dike entries. Withdraw before the dive circuit and never leave cash or visible equipment in the vehicle.

Travelers from regions using other plugs need an adapter, and equipment must support 230V. Bring a protected power strip for lights, cameras, computers, and heated-vest batteries, but follow accommodation charging rules.
Communications
Dutch mobile networks generally cover towns and major roads, while signal can weaken behind dikes or at remote entries. EU roaming normally applies to eligible EU plans subject to provider policy. Download maps, tide and current data, emergency contacts, and the alternate-site plan before leaving Wi-Fi. Share the exact site and expected exit time with shore support.
Language
Dutch is the main language. English is widely understood in tourism and dive centers, and German is common around holiday parks and dive businesses. Learn the local site spelling because emergency dispatch, road signs, and tide tools may use Dutch names.
Insurance
Carry travel insurance that explicitly covers the planned scuba depth, drysuit, wreck, nitrox, technical, freedive, or snorkeling activity. Confirm decompression-illness treatment, hyperbaric care, ambulance, search and rescue, repatriation, trip interruption, and equipment cover. An EHIC or GHIC may help eligible travelers obtain medically necessary state care, but it is not a substitute for dive and travel insurance.
