La Poza, Xcalak

La Poza is one of Xcalak's signature reef dives, built around a shallow trench that runs parallel to shore. One side holds a coral wall while the other slopes into sand, and a swim-through leads into the section where large tarpon gather in the shelter of the reef. When current builds the route can feel like a relaxed drift, so the dive is usually planned as a moving pass along the formation rather than a static reef stop. Expect an active fish scene with jacks, snapper, rays, and occasional manatee sightings around a site that feels close to shore but still fully exposed to reef conditions.
