About Lovers Point
Lovers Point is one of Monterey Bay's easiest shore dives, with a sandy beach entry leading into rocky ridges, kelp, and fish-rich structure just offshore. The cove is popular because it offers a straightforward route for new divers and snorkelers while still giving colder-water Monterey character, with rockfish, lingcod, cabezon, perch, and invertebrate life spread across the ridges and nearby pinnacles. It feels more protected than many open Monterey shore sites, but it is still a real ocean entry that changes quickly with surge, swell, and visibility. On calm mornings it can be an approachable first cold-water dive; in rougher weather the same beach can become much less comfortable and far less beginner-friendly.
