Sand Key Lighthouse is located within a Sanctuary Preservation area that has diminished over time due to natural erosion and hurricanes, leaving a small sandy area surrounded by a coral reef. This unique sandy feature is not commonly found at other coral reefs in Florida. The site is suitable for both diving and snorkeling.
