Season planner for Mexico

Mexico is diveable year-round, but seasons differ by coast. The Mexican Caribbean is most predictable from December to April, with clearer water and fewer tropical systems, while late spring and summer bring warmer water, more humidity, and periodic sargassum on some Quintana Roo beaches. Baja and the Sea of Cortez often shine in late summer to autumn when water is warmest, while winter can be cooler with stronger winds and thermoclines.

Hurricane season affects both basins: the Eastern Pacific season typically runs May 15 to November 30, and the Atlantic season runs June 1 to November 30. During these months, plan flexible days, watch port closures, and keep cenotes as a backup activity near Tulum. For big-animal liveaboards, Revillagigedo generally operates in the cooler-season window (roughly November to June).

Plan Carefully: Hurricane season can disrupt Caribbean and Pacific trips, even though Baja can be excellent with water 27°C to 29°C.

For protectedarea crossings like Mahahual and Chinchorro, CONANP recommends February to May for favorable sea conditions.

Plan Carefully: Cooler Baja water 19°C to 22°C and stronger winds can shorten open-water sessions.

If you want competitions and organized safety, watch AIDA calendars: events like AIDA Cortez Cup (Sea of Cortez, August) and AIDA Xibalba (cenote depth, autumn) can be useful anchors.
