Season planner for Oman

Oman planning is about matching coast to season. Northern hubs (Muscat, Daymaniyat, and Musandam) are most consistent from October to April, with warm water and generally calmer seas. Dhofar (Salalah and Mirbat) has a strong October to May dive window plus the Khareef season (late June into mid-September) that is topside-prime but can make sea conditions more variable. Whale shark encounters are most associated with September to November around Daymaniyat and Musandam. Reserve rules can also shape timing, especially at Daymaniyat where entry is managed with seasonal restrictions.

Ideal: Most reliable coast-to-coast weather; northern water often 23°C to 28°C.

Plan Carefully: Peak heat in the north and Khareef influence in Dhofar; sea state and visibility can be more variable.

If you want one trip that mixes underwater time and roadtrip scenery, target late October through March.

Ideal: Better odds of calmer seas in Muscat and Musandam; water commonly 23°C to 28°C.

Plan Carefully: North: very hot topside; South: Khareef can increase swell and reduce clarity. Plan conservatively.

Musandam is often best October to April, and currents can be stronger around headlands regardless of month.

Ideal: Higher chance of calmer seas for line work; water often 23°C to 27°C in the north.

Plan Carefully: Heat, wind, and Khareef influence can complicate open-water sessions. Use sheltered bays and boat support.

For training trips, prioritize safety setup (line, counterbalance or equivalent, surface support) and pick the most sheltered water available on the day.

For Khareef, base in Salalah and expect mist, drizzle, and busy weekends.
