Overview
Ajaccio and Propriano form a strong two-base Corsica trip rather than a single compact resort stay. Ajaccio combines the Iles Sanguinaires, rocky arches, the P51 Mustang aircraft wreck, beginner sites around Porticcio, and one of France's most developed open-water freediving programs. Propriano opens the Gulf of Valinco, where Les Cathedrales, the Vallee des Merous, pinnacles, black-coral slopes, sheltered coves, and Campomoro create a wider spread from first dives to advanced walls. Most underwater days are local boat outings, shore training, or guided snorkeling, so this is a land-based destination with no need for a liveaboard. June and September offer the best overall balance, while May through October carries the broadest water schedule. Napoleonic museums, La Parata sunsets, Filitosa, Sartene, thermal bathing, and coastal walks give non-divers a complete parallel itinerary.
Ajaccio delivers access, history, training, and freediving; Propriano adds the deeper Valinco walls and Campomoro coves.
