Scuba

What It Feels Like

Asturias is best for divers who want temperate Atlantic terrain, macro subjects and a strong cultural trip around local day boats. Gijon operators such as Speedywater, Alpha Buceo and Inmersion Kike cover training, gear and local dives, while Pipo Diving works the Nalon, Cudillero, Muros de Nalon, Soto del Barco and Castrillon area. Expect cold water, variable visibility and site decisions driven by swell, but also rewarding rocky reefs with nudibranchs, octopus, conger, lobster and dramatic gullies.

Signature Sites

Start Here

  • La Conchi

A Cudillero boat dive often described as a scenic rocky reef in the {{ 15 | distance:m }} to {{ 20 | distance:m }} range, useful when the sea state supports western Costa Verde departures.

  • Deva Sur

The south side of Isla Deva is used for courses and discover dives, with sandy drop zones and shallow practice terrain around {{ 4 | distance:m }} to {{ 7 | distance:m }}.

  • Penarrubia

A Gijon rocky coast option for trained local divers when tide, surf and entry conditions are suitable.

Level Up

  • Cabo Penas

Asturias' exposed central cape has dramatic cliff scenery above water and can offer rugged wallstyle diving by boat when wind and swell permit.

  • El Musel and Gijon training dives

Gijonbased operators use local sheltered waters for introductions, refreshers and skillfocused dives before committing to more exposed offshore sites.

Advanced

  • Cuevas de la Austera

A Cudilleroarea coldwater site associated with cavelike passages, walls and lobster or conger encounters around the mid{{ 20 | distance:m }} range when conditions allow.

Planning Playbook

Operator Checklist

  • Book a centre first and a site second. The right question is not which famous site is guaranteed, but which coast section is safe and worthwhile on your dive day. Confirm certification, insurance, medical questionnaire, cylinder valve type, nitrox availability and whether the operator supplies hood, gloves and thicker wetsuits. For multi-day trips, schedule diving early in the itinerary so weather can be moved around.
