Season planner for Tulamben and Amed

East Bali follows Indonesia's monsoon rhythm. BMKG seasonal outlooks commonly place the start of Bali's dry season around April - May, with peak dry-season conditions around July - August, and the onset of the rainy season around October - November. Tulamben and Amed are diveable year-round, but surface conditions are usually best early in the day. Expect tropical water, commonly 26°C to 30°C, and plan around afternoon sea breezes that can reach 20.0 kph or more in exposed bays.

Ideal: Drier weather and more consistent travel days; breezier afternoons can create surface chop up to about 25.0 kph.

Plan Carefully: Wetter season with heavier rain at times; runoff can reduce visibility after storms, so prioritize early entries and sheltered bays.

July and August are often the busiest and priciest months.

Ideal: Dry-season stability for repeat shore dives; early mornings often deliver the cleanest visibility and easiest entries.

Plan Carefully: More rain and occasional swell; diving remains possible, but check runoff and surge at rocky entries.

USAT Liberty is a yearround site; the biggest difference is surface chop and visibility after rain.

Ideal: Flatter mornings and better surface visibility for bays like Jemeluk and Lipah.

Plan Carefully: Heavier rain can reduce clarity after storms; stick to calm mornings and consider a guide and float.

Snorkeling is best early in the day before boat traffic and sea breeze build.

Manta rays are most reliably seen around Nusa Penida. From the northeast coast it is a logistics-heavy add-on, but many travelers build one 'big animal' day into an otherwise wreck-and-macro itinerary.

Night dives on the Liberty often deliver different behavior: hunting, crustaceans on structure, and more active reef fish. Choose calm nights and carry a reliable primary and backup light.
