Plan every dive within the least experienced teammate's current certification and cold-water capability. Cold water and thermoclines
A warm surface does not predict temperature at depth. Use exposure protection, regulators, gas reserves, and turn criteria appropriate to the coldest planned layer.
Silt and variable visibility
Soft sediment, fin wash, algae, runoff, or traffic can reduce visual contact quickly. Keep teams close, use controlled propulsion, and abort before separation becomes likely.
