When to go

Best time to visit Fakarava

Fakarava works yearround, but the easiest overall planning window is May to October, the drier and cooler period in French Polynesia.

Best overall window

May to October

Drier weather, warm water around 26°C to 28°C, and the most comfortable allaround trip window.

Outside that window

Hotter and more humid, with more weather uncertainty and higher need for flight and boat buffers.

Choose your trip style

Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.

Always true for this destination
  • Surface chop can add a little more texture on exposed entries.
  • Sun exposure stays high even when conditions are easy.
  • Same-day route swaps become more likely when weather builds.
Seasonal cautions
  • Jul to Aug: Dry-season demand is higher, and exposed boat rides can still be choppy.
  • Dec to Feb: Wet-season travel still works, but schedules deserve more buffer.
