Cold-water wrecks, kelp walls and curious grey seals off Northumberland
When to go
The broadest allround window is May to September.
Best overall window
Best overlap of regular boats, scuba, guided swims and island access. Seabirds dominate June and July; seals and inwater comfort strengthen later.
Outside that window
Crossings and exposed sites can feel rougher in this stretch.
Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.
