When to go

Best time to visit Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is genuinely yearround, but the easiest allaround window is April to November, with September to November often giving the best blend of warm water, calmer mornings, and comfortable topside weather.

Best overall window

April to November, warmest September to November

Warmest water around 23°C to 26°C, comfortable evenings, calmerfeeling mornings, and strong mixed diving plus topside value.

Outside the easiest stretch

Surface chop can add a little more texture on exposed entries.

Choose your trip style

Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.

AreaBest monthsWhy it changes
East coast: Arinaga, El Cabron, Tufia

April to November, with calm mornings preferred

Great for volcanic shore diving, but wind and current decide whether El Cabron is a signature dive or a site to postpone.

Main caution: Surface chop can add a little more texture on exposed entries.

North and northwest: Sardina, Caleta Baja, Agaete

May to October for easier surface conditions

These coasts are rewarding but more exposed to Atlantic swell.

Main caution: Crossings and exposed sites can feel rougher in this stretch.

South and southwest: Maspalomas, Puerto Rico, Mogan

April to November

Best for resort logistics, family travel, and day boats.

Main caution: Peak holiday weeks feel busier and book faster.
