When To Go
Season planner for Hallaniyat Islands
Hallaniyat is highly seasonal for sea access. Most diving and island crossings target October to May, when seas are calmer and visibility is often better. June to September is Khareef in Dhofar: great for green landscapes around Salalah, but commonly rough for offshore crossings. Shoulder months (May and September) can work with flexibility and good forecasts.

Activity Drilldowns
OverallOct to Apr·Crowd:Low·Cost:Premium
Ideal: More reliable crossings and calmer seas; water often around 24°C to 28°C.
Plan Carefully: Khareef monsoon brings rough seas and reduced visibility; offshore trips are frequently limited.
Salalah gets much busier during Khareef (June to September), even though offshore access can be harder.
ScubaNov to Apr·Crowd:Low·Cost:Premium
Ideal: Best mix of sea state and wildlife potential; expect 5 m to 20 m depending on swell.
Plan Carefully: Khareef conditions commonly suspend offshore diving in southern Oman.
Many expedition itineraries are seasonal.
FreediveDec to Mar·Crowd:Low·Cost:Premium
Ideal: More stable seas for boat-supported line diving; water can feel cooler after wind and upwelling.
Plan Carefully: Rough seas and low visibility can make freediving unsafe offshore.
Use strict safety systems and avoid pushing depth in a remote setting.
SnorkelOct to Apr·Crowd:Low·Cost:Premium
Ideal: Best chance of calm surface conditions for sheltered-cove snorkeling.
Plan Carefully: Khareef seas often make snorkeling impractical or unsafe.
Treat snorkeling as conditionsdependent and guided.
TopsideJun to Sep·Crowd:High·Cost:Premium
Ideal: Khareef season in Dhofar: mist, light showers, and green landscapes.
Plan Carefully: Pleasant weather overall, but cooler evenings and shorter daylight can affect long coastal drives.
Khareef is peak tourism for Salalah, so accommodation can book out.
