Overview
Lastovo rewards travelers who value protected seascapes, low-volume boat diving, and a deliberately slow island rhythm. Official tourism guidance requires recreational divers to be accompanied by an authorized local guide, so this is not a self-directed shore-diving destination. Day boats fan out from Zaklopatica and Pasadur toward dramatic limestone walls, underwater passages, caves, wrecks, amphora sites, Posidonia meadows, and the scattered Lastovnjaci islets. The best-known profiles include the passage at Bijelac, the cave at Tajan, and Cape Struga's gorgonian wall, which continues far beyond normal recreational depth. Above water, pine-shaded coves, stone villages, historic lighthouses, shearwater colonies, dark skies, and the Lastovo Poklad tradition make a mixed diver and non-diver week easy to fill. The trade-off is remoteness: ferries, weather, medical evacuation, cash, medication, and spare equipment all deserve more planning than on a mainland resort coast.
