Yes. The official Lastovo tourism board states that diving is allowed only when accompanied by a guide from an authorized dive center. It lists Ankora in Zaklopatica and Diving Paradise Lastovo in Pasadur. Contact the center before travel with your certification, logged experience, date of last dive, equipment sizes, and any cave, wreck, or decompression qualifications. A guide requirement does not make every site suitable for every diver. The team still needs to choose a profile that fits certification, current, surface state, visibility, overhead exposure, gas supply, and recent comfort in blue water.
The official tourism board highlights Bijelac for an underwater passage, Tajan for an underwater cave, and Cape Struga for a gorgonian wall that continues to about 80 m. It also identifies the eastern Lastovnjaci islets, bays, cliffs, wrecks, and amphora locations as key parts of the underwater landscape. These names describe very different risks. A passage or cave may involve overhead exposure, while a deep wall demands disciplined depth control. Certification level, buoyancy, sea conditions, and the guide's assessment determine the appropriate site each day.
Good shore-access choices include Port Jurjeva, a large enclosed bay protected from most winds; Kruzica, with two small pebble beaches and natural shade; Pasadur's public Hotel Beach; and Skrivena Luka or Portorosso on the south coast. Conditions still depend on wind direction, boats, and entry quality, so ask a host which side is leeward that morning. Wear sea shoes, use a bright float, and avoid harbor approaches. Saplun on Mladina is a standout option but requires a boat, making it better for a park excursion or arranged day trip.

A car is helpful but not mandatory. Travelers staying beside an authorized center in Zaklopatica or Pasadur can arrange diving, meals, and selected transfers without one. A vehicle becomes valuable for Lastovo Town, Skrivena Luka, Struga Lighthouse, Port Jurjeva, trailheads, and changing to a leeward beach. The seasonal bus links Ubli, Lastovo Town, and Pasadur around ferry movements, but frequency outside the main summer timetable is limited. Reserve rental vehicles and vehicle-ferry space early. Confirm parking and road access with the host, and never assume a passenger catamaran can carry a rental car.
Non-divers can swim at Port Jurjeva, Kruzica, Pasadur, or Skrivena Luka; join the Nature Park's educational sea tour to Saplun and the Lastovnjaci; walk through Lastovo Town; visit Struga Lighthouse; follow park trails; and reserve a Starry Sky of Lastovo telescope session. Food and wine evenings are easy to share with the dive group. In winter, Poklad offers a rare cultural focus, though transport and services are reduced. For mixed groups, book accommodation near a swimmable cove and a dive base so non-divers are not stranded whenever the car leaves before breakfast.
Do not collect amphorae, wreck material, shells, plants, rocks, minerals, or other natural or archaeological objects. Do not touch gorgonians, stand in Posidonia, feed wildlife, approach nesting seabirds, litter, light fires, or camp outside designated places. Fishing requires the correct permit and zone compliance; spearfishing with artificial breathing apparatus is prohibited. Private skippers should use official ecological moorings rather than anchoring into seagrass. Divers should secure gauges and alternate air sources, maintain neutral buoyancy, and follow the authorized guide. Snorkelers should keep fins above sensitive habitat and avoid publishing precise nesting locations.
Freediving is attractive in Lastovo's clear coves, but no recurring competition or guaranteed public depth line was verified. Arrange a qualified safety professional, dedicated surface support, oxygen, a legal dive flag, and a boat that is not simultaneously occupied with scuba logistics. Port Jurjeva and Skrivena Luka can offer protected options depending on wind, while Saplun and outer islets require boat support. June through September is the most comfortable period for long surface intervals. Bring specialist equipment from home, follow one-up one-down buddy procedures, never hyperventilate, and never conduct depth sessions alone or in harbor traffic.
