Most visitors fly into Honiara International Airport on Guadalcanal, then board a liveaboard or operator-arranged boat transfer from Honiara. The Russell Islands are close enough to be included on Central Province routes, but not convenient enough for casual independent day trips unless a specialist operator, weather window and minimum numbers align. Some vessels combine the Russells with Florida Islands, Mary Island, Marovo Lagoon or Honiara wrecks. Private yachts and expedition boats must clear through official ports of entry before going ashore. Add at least one Honiara buffer night when international flights, liveaboard boarding or domestic logistics are tight.
In Honiara, use hotel shuttles, taxis, minibuses, car hire or operator transfers. Once the boat leaves Honiara, transport is by liveaboard tender, charter boat, local tinny or permission-led village pickup.
