Protected Kornati walls, Adriatic wrecks, and four flexible Dalmatian bases
Overview
Sibenik and the Kornati Islands combine protected archipelago diving with a practical land-based coast. Stay on Murter or in Betina for authorized Kornati National Park boats, choose Primosten or Rogoznica for walls, training bays, freediving, and wreck access, or use Sibenik for UNESCO heritage and passenger ferries to the inhabited islands.
The underwater mix is distinctly Adriatic: limestone walls, gorgonian-covered drop-offs, Posidonia meadows, small caverns, current-washed reefs, and protected wartime wrecks. Difficulty ranges from sheltered Pongo Bay and Kukuljari to Samograd, Dome, Stuka, Alain's Cliff, and the deep Francesca di Rimini. Kornati scuba is tightly regulated, with nine approved zones, authorized organized groups, a 40 m maximum, and no night diving.
May, June, and September offer the best balance. July and August are warm and fully operational but crowded. Non-divers get Sibenik's old town, Primosten, Rogoznica, Murter beaches, Zlarin, and Krka National Park.
Kornati National Park concentrates scuba into nine authorized zones, protecting the setting while giving guided divers access to walls, gorgonians, reefs, and island geology.
Stuka offers an advanced-recreational aircraft wreck around 25 m to 27 m, while Francesca di Rimini provides a much deeper protected objective for properly qualified teams.
