Overview
Southern Corsica combines two distinct dive areas within one land-based trip. Bonifacio boats run beneath white cliffs toward the Lavezzi plateau, where granite pinnacles, passages, gorgonians, and unusually approachable dusky grouper define sites such as Tete d'Homme and Merouville. Porto-Vecchio operators work the Cerbicale and Vacca sectors, mixing shallow training reefs, the Pecorella cement wreck, arches, sand channels, nudibranch habitat, and deeper fish-rich shoals.
The wider Bouches de Bonifacio reserve protects about 80,000 hectares, but zoning matters. Enhanced-protection areas permit ordinary scuba subject to reserve rules, while integral no-take zones require individual authorization and should be treated as closed unless a licensed operator confirms access. Wind, swell, and current choose the site each day, so flexible travelers do best. Plan May to October for the broadest dive schedule, split time between the two hubs, and keep at least one weather-flex day.
