Cold-water shore dive at Crique Ouest
Cold-water shore dive at Crique Ouest
A local guide is strongly recommended because the current and shore entry change with the tide.
Escoumins - Crique Ouest is a cold-water shore dive with a rocky slope, wall sections, and anemone-covered terrain that supports sea urchins, stars, crabs, and other St. Lawrence marine life. The site rewards buoyancy and tide timing, and is well supported by an on-site base with fills, rinsing, and hot showers.
Conservative baseline from public research. No community dives logged yet.
Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
5m - 30m
Depth Note
The shore entry starts at the 5 m cable area and can be followed down the guide line to about 30 m.
Best Season
May to October
Typical Conditions
Cold-water wall and rocky slope with anemones, urchins, and a guide rope; current and tide timing shape the dive.
Site conditions, restrictions, and access requirements.
Site Conditions
Safety Notes
Use the guide rope, watch the tide-driven current, and treat low tide entries and exits as more technical than they look.
Access Restrictions
Shore access runs through the base stairs and boardwalk, and the site is best dived during the base's May-to-October operating window.
Legal Notes
Follow the base rules and local tide guidance; do not assume the shore entry is trivial in cold-water gear.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Best as a cold-water shore dive with a drysuit or thick exposure protection and careful buoyancy on the wall.
Freediving
Not a primary freedive site because the cold-water profile and currents make it better for scuba.
Snorkeling
Not a snorkel-first site; the interesting structure sits below easy surface range.
