About Sentier sous-marin
Sentier sous-marin is the marked underwater trail at Peyrefite beach in the Cerbere-Banyuls reserve. A buoyed circuit leads through rocky patches, Posidonia, fissures and small drop-offs, with handrails and observation stops that make the route easy to follow. It is a sheltered, summer-managed outing that fits relaxed snorkeling best, with plenty of small Mediterranean fish in the shallows.

Depth Note
Shallow trail in a few metres of water; official references put the stations at about 5 m max.

Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Use the buoyed route and handrails to rest, and treat the site as a shallow open-water swim rather than a deep dive. Avoid it when wind or chop makes the cove rough.
Access Restrictions
Seasonal summer operation. Outside staffed hours, go only with your own snorkel kit and confirm local access before you travel.
Legal Notes
Inside the Cerbere-Banyuls marine reserve, so stay on the marked circuit and follow local reserve rules and seasonal access guidance.

Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
A very shallow reserve circuit rather than a big bottom-time dive. Scuba is possible, but the trail is built around easy shoreline exploration and short observation stops.
Freediving
Good for relaxed breath-hold swims on calm days, but keep it shallow and conservative because this is a protected trail with surface-oriented access.
Snorkeling
The natural fit: mask, fins and snorkel from Peyrefite beach, following the marked buoys and stopping at the observation stations.
