About Friskies Pinnacle

Friskies Pinnacle is a compact boat dive in Simon's Bay, built around a small granite pinnacle with boulders fanning out to the north-east and a lower north pinnacle nearby. The dive is easy to read once you drop on the top of the reef and work back toward the shotline, but the boat ride can turn choppy when the wind picks up. It is a good False Bay reef for macro details, with red-bait pods, strawberry anemones, sea fans, and other small temperate life on the rock. Calm-weather planning matters more here than raw depth.

Usually manageable in a southwest swell, but strong southeast wind quickly makes the boat ride unpleasant. The site stays workable below the surface when the wind is calm enough.

Safety Notes

Wind can make the surface rough and make it harder for crew to keep track of divers. Keep the dive compact around the shotline and use a DSMB if you surface away from it.

Boat access only; scuba permit required in the TMNP MPA.

Legal Notes

Within Table Mountain National Park MPA / Boulders area; divers need an MPA permit.

Local Intel For Friskies Pinnacle

Community notes to help plan your visit.

Scuba

Drop on the top of the pinnacle, explore down to the sand, and work back up to the shotline. The reef is compact and easy to orient once you are on the structure.

Freedive

Not a practical freedive site: it is boat-only and the useful reef sits too deep for relaxed breath-hold use.

Snorkel

Not a snorkel destination; the site is offshore and the interesting structure sits below comfortable surface viewing depth.
