Thoddoo Turtle / Vella Ulhey Than is a long coral wall on the southwest side of Thoddoo with a shallow top and a slope fully covered in hard corals. It is one of the island's easiest turtle sites, with a profile that suits beginner divers and snorkelers while still giving plenty of room for rays and mantas to move through. On quieter days it feels like a relaxed reef wall; in the monsoon months, current can build enough to make timing and buoyancy matter.
Conservative baseline from public research. No community dives logged yet.
Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
3m - 30m
Depth Note
The shallow top section is about 3 m deep; the wall continues deeper, so 30 m is a conservative planning ceiling rather than a published maximum.
Best Season
November to April for the calmest seas and clearest water; diving is possible year-round.
Typical Conditions
Shallow coral wall, excellent visibility, and usually mild conditions with stronger current in the monsoon.
Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.
Key Hazards
Safety Notes
The top is shallow and beginner-friendly, but monsoon current can strengthen and boat traffic matters on the shallow reef crest. Keep buoyancy tight and stay alert near the wall edge.
Access Restrictions
Boat access from Thoddoo harbor or local dive centers; no shore entry to the wall itself.
Legal Notes
Use local dive-center guidance and reef-protection practices, especially when currents build in the monsoon.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
A beginner-friendly profile with a shallow top section around 3 m deep, followed by a coral wall and slope.
Freediving
Freedivers can use the shallow top and wall edge, but the site is best as relaxed snorkeling or scuba turtle watching.
Snorkeling
Very good snorkeling site in calm weather because the top is shallow and turtles are common.
