Local operator required
Local operator required. Guides must have the NOM09 accreditation to dive here. Highly recommended to use an experienced guide of this dive site. One who knows how to judge the entry as it isn't marked, and how to work with the boat captain to keep divers safe in currents on the surface. A local dive center will carry emergency equipment and know how to use it.
Longer boat run from Los Cabos to a deep blue-water pinnacle with strong-current potential, operator-gated access, and conditions that can shift from clear and calm to cold and demanding.
About Gordo Banks
Gordo Banks is an offshore seamount outside San Jose del Cabo where divers descend into blue water to reach a deep pinnacle head and pelagic cleaning-station action. It is dived for schooling hammerheads and other open-water encounters rather than relaxed reef structure, so the day depends heavily on current, surface conditions, whether the bank is fishable on the day, and operator judgment.

Safety Notes
Diving in Los Cabos is seasonal. So we have every kind of condition here. It can be warm, blue, calm in late summer to fall. Spring is windy, choppy and cold and can offer lower visibility. The wildllife prefer the latter! So you can dive here all year, with the right safety check out.
Access Restrictions
Gordo Banks is a boat-only offshore dive that should be treated as guide-gated rather than a casual independent site. Many operators require prior experience checks and will skip it when current, wind, or surface pickup conditions are not acceptable.
Legal Notes
Expect normal Los Cabos offshore-dive operating controls through the boat captain and licensed local operator rather than informal self-entry. Follow all departure, safety-briefing, and local-guide requirements before treating Gordo Banks as diveable.

Freediving
Gordo Banks is not an appropriate casual freedive site because the draw is deep pelagic action on an offshore seamount with current and blue-water pickup complexity.
Snorkeling
This is not a practical snorkel site. Conditions, depth, and offshore logistics make it a scuba-first seamount dive.
