Boat access and current timing are best handled by a local guide.
Palikir Wall is a boat-access drift wall on Pohnpei's outer barrier reef, timed to an incoming tide when the current is moving the way the site wants it. The dive follows a steep coral drop-off that stays interesting because you are reading the flow, scanning the wall, and keeping the drift line clean rather than pushing against the water. It is a classic Micronesia wall dive: sharks, strong-current timing, and a run that rewards experienced buoyancy and a local guide.

Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Plan the dive for an incoming current (about one hour after flood begins) and stay alert for small boat traffic in the area.
Access Restrictions
Boat access only; time the drop for the incoming tide and use a local operator who knows the drift line.
Legal Notes
Follow local marine-area and boat-traffic rules, and respect any reserve guidance from your operator.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Drift dive best undertaken during an incoming current, about one hour after the flood begins.
Freediving
Only for exceptionally experienced freedivers in very controlled conditions; this is fundamentally a scuba drift wall.
Snorkeling
Not a snorkel site; the current and depth make it unsuitable for casual surface use.
