Quaak is a Stavenisse shore dive for experienced current divers.
Quaak is a Stavenisse shore dive for experienced current divers.
Quaak is the easternmost Stavenisse dive site on the Oosterschelde edge, a shore entry that rewards careful timing more than relaxed swimming. The line starts shallow by the trap and then drops along stones and oyster and mussel beds, so the best dive is a compact out-and-back search on the hard bottom. Plan for strong, variable current, modest visibility, and a nearby shipping channel; this is best for experienced current divers.

Reported Depth
0m - 40m
Depth Note
The entry starts shallow and the site drops quickly along the hard bottom to about 40 m.
Typical Conditions
A tide-sensitive Oosterschelde shore dive with a shallow start, a quick drop, and a hard-bottom search line that works best around low-water slack.
Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.
Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Only plan Quaak when you are comfortable managing strong, shifting current. Keep clear of the shipping channel and keep the dive short enough to stay inside the low-water window.
Access Restrictions
Use the Keetenweg entry and stay out of the nearby shipping channel. Parking is limited and the dive is best timed to low-water slack.
Legal Notes
Free access is noted, but diving in the vaargeul is not allowed.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Enter by the trap or breakwater, then follow the strekdam toward the deeper section and return west on a compact search pattern. Keep the dive short and current-aware rather than trying to brute-force the line.
Freediving
Not a good routine freedive target because the current, depth, and channel exposure make timing and recovery too unforgiving.
Snorkeling
Only a marginal snorkel option in the calmest shallow water. Quaak is mainly a scuba site and the current windows are too unforgiving for casual snorkeling.
