Local operator required

The channel flow and reserve logistics make a local operator the practical way to dive Bartle Bay.

Bartle Bay sits between the Poor Knights islands in a current-swept channel. It is a boat dive for confident divers, with kelpy slopes and fish drawn in by the moving water.

About Bartle Bay

Bartle Bay is a channel dive in the Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve with strong water movement, kelpy slopes, and a food-rich fish scene. The flow draws blue maomao, demoiselles, snapper, and kingfish through the channel, so it rewards confident boat divers but is not a casual everyday dive. When conditions line up, the moving water makes it one of the most distinctive temperate dives in Northland.
