About Marakura Bay
Marakura Bay is a freshwater lake dive on Lake Te Anau beside the township, approached from a stony shoreline. The entry is an easy walk-in with a gentle nearshore slope that soon turns into a steeper drop a short swim out. The bottom is silty, so the dive is more about terrain and local freshwater life than reef scenery. Small koura are commonly seen, with freshwater sponges and mussels noted in the silt.
