Matapaua Bay is a sheltered Coromandel shore dive with a sandy middle, shallow reefs on both sides, and rocky kelp edges that make it a reliable beginner site. It is the kind of bay where rays, crayfish, leatherjackets, wrasse, and snapper turn up close to shore, but rain and southeast swell can quickly knock back the visibility.
