Can I extend A Frames into a deeper dive?

Yes, experienced divers can continue into deeper loch water, but that is where current and low light become more important.

How busy does A Frames get?

It can be one of the busiest west-coast training sites, especially on summer weekends and when clubs are visiting.

How strong is the current at A Frames?

The main site is usually manageable, but current can strengthen deeper in the loch and when the tide is running.

Is A Frames suitable for trainee divers?

Yes. It is widely used for training, but the deeper frame area and variable visibility reward solid buoyancy and navigation.

What hazards should I watch for at A Frames?

Watch the terminal boundary, moored boats, slippery entry and exit sections, and the risk of stirring silt from the bottom.

What is the access like at A Frames?

Access is by shore entry from the car park near the terminal. The path down is short but a little awkward, so take care at the waterline.

What marine life is common at A Frames?

Expect loch life on the structure: anemones, dead men's fingers, fan worms, crabs, shrimp, whelks and nudibranchs are often noted.

What visibility should I expect at A Frames?

Visibility is variable. Good days can be decent, but silt, rain and traffic can cut it down quickly.

Easy-to-reach west-coast loch site with a short shore entry, training-friendly wreckage, and deeper frame structures for calm, patient divers.

About A Frames

A shore dive on Loch Long beside the Finnart Oil Terminal, where the remains of an old pier and the A-frame structures form an artificial reef over a shallow silty slope. The route is straightforward once you are in the water, but the real interest comes from the heavier wreckage and the deeper frame section, so it suits calm, buoyancy-aware diving.
