Readable Scapa Flow cruiser wreck
Readable Scapa Flow cruiser wreck
SMS Cöln is one of Scapa Flow's signature German cruiser wrecks, lying on its side as a large and readable warship in the Orkney anchorage. It is easier to navigate than some of the nearby capital ships, with clear features that make the bow, bridge and stern guns worth tracing as you move along the hull. Plan it as a boat dive with wreck skills and respect for the memorial status, then use the seasonal visibility window to choose your timing.
Safety Notes
The wreck is a protected scheduled monument, so artefacts must not be removed and wreck procedures should stay disciplined.
