SS Kyarra
SS Kyarra is a classic Swanage wreck with a clear route.
Boat-only wreck dive from Swanage Pier; plan the drop around slack water and bring DSMB skills for a tidal, experienced-diver site.
About SS Kyarra
SS Kyarra is a classic Swanage wreck dive: a large passenger-and-cargo liner lying on its starboard side off Anvil Point. The wreck still offers a clear bow-to-stern route with boilers, railings, holds and collapsed deck sections, so it rewards deliberate pacing. It is a boat-only, slack-water dive for confident divers, and it gets harder once current builds or silt is stirred. Marine life is a bonus rather than the headline, with congers, bass and pollack around the structure.

Safety & Access At SS Kyarra
Site conditions, restrictions, and access requirements.
Site Conditions
Entanglement riskLow visibilityStrong current
Safety Notes
Use a disciplined gas plan, stay close to the shot or DSMB, and expect flow to build quickly outside slack. Treat any penetration as overhead diving and only enter with the right training.
Access Restrictions
Boat access only from Swanage; the site is timed around a short slack-water window and is not a casual shore dive.
Legal Notes
Historic wreck. Do not remove artifacts, and report significant finds through the Receiver of Wreck.

Scuba Diving
A midships shot and an out-and-back along the wreck works well. Follow the starboard-leaning structure toward the boilers, railings and collapsed sections, and keep the dive compact if the current starts to build.
Freediving
Not a practical freedive target; the depth, tidal flow and task loading make it a scuba site rather than a breath-hold objective.
Snorkeling
Not a snorkel target; the wreck sits well below comfortable surface viewing and is only meaningful as a scuba dive.
