Boat-only advanced wreck dive off Waianae with deep aircraft remains, reef fingers, and a profile that depends on good visibility and controlled gas planning.

About Airplane Canyon

Airplane Canyon is a deep west Oahu boat dive centered on the remains of a small passenger aircraft resting among reef fingers and sandy canyons offshore from Waianae. The wreck is only part of the appeal, because the surrounding ledges and coral growth create a wider reef dive where snapper schools and general reef life fill in the canyon structure around the fuselage. This is not an entry-level wreck. The site sits well below casual recreational depth, works best with a clean descent and ascent plan, and feels most comfortable when visibility is settled enough that the aircraft and surrounding reef structure can be read clearly from the start of the dive.

Airplane Canyon Planning Details

Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.

Reported Depth

29m

Depth Note

Reported depth is 95 ft.

Typical Conditions

Expect a deep offshore wreck profile with surrounding reef fingers and canyon structure, where visibility and descent control matter more than simple route complexity.

Safety & Access At Airplane Canyon

Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.

Safety Notes

Treat Airplane Canyon as a deep advanced boat dive and plan gas, narcosis, and ascent discipline accordingly. The wreck is better viewed as an exterior structure within a deeper canyon dive than as something to rush toward without a settled descent.

Access Restrictions

Airplane Canyon is a boat-only west Oahu dive and is not part of a casual shore-entry system.

Legal Notes

Avoid disturbing the aircraft remains, attached growth, and surrounding reef habitat.
