When to go

Best time to visit Gizo and Western Province

Western Province is diveable yearround, but the easiest allround trip window is May to October, when the official tourism guidance points to lower rainfall, humidity and temperatures.

Best overall window

May to October

Drier, more comfortable island weather, warm water around 28°C to 30°C and the best balance for diving, snorkeling, trekking and transfers.

Outside the easiest stretch

Wetseason warmth and humidity, quickmoving rain at times, possible storm disruption and a greater need for schedule buffers.

Choose your trip style

Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.

AreaBest monthsWhy it changes
Gizo and Vonavona Lagoon

May to November

Gizo's sheltered lagoon sites and local operator experience help keep dive days moving, with November often calm but humid.

Main caution: Wet Season Humidity.

Munda, Rendova and Tetepare

May to October for easiest weather

Munda diving is strong in the dry season, while Tetepare turtle encounters pull some travelers into the wetter months.

Main caution: Storm Disruptions.

Marovo Lagoon and Uepi

May to October

Uepi and Marovo Lagoon can be excellent yearround, but remote transfers and passage sites benefit from calmer, drier travel periods.

Main caution: Same-day route swaps become more likely when weather builds.

Always true for this destination
  • This destination stays workable through the full year.
  • Late-year rain is usually brief rather than trip-ending.
  • Trip Cancellations.
Seasonal cautions
  • Nov to Apr: Wet-season trips can still work, but build in flexibility for rain, route changes and occasional storm effects.
  • Dec to Jan: Holiday periods can tighten rooms, flights and boat schedules in small island hubs.
