Season planner for Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta follows the Andaman pattern: a dry, boat-friendly season from roughly November to April and a southwest monsoon season from about May to October. Plan your underwater priorities for the dry season when seas are calmer and operators run long-range trips more reliably. In the monsoon months, some shops reduce schedules or close, and parts of the national park system may be seasonally closed for safety and reef recovery.

Ideal: Calmer seas, better boat reliability, water around 28°C to 30°C.

Plan Carefully: Southwest monsoon brings higher winds and swell; some operators pause long-range trips and visibility can drop.

December to February is the busiest window, with higher prices and earlier sellouts.

Ideal: Most consistent long-range access to Hin Daeng/Hin Muang and clearer water, often 15 m to 30 m on good days.

Plan Carefully: Many dive centers reduce schedules or close in monsoon months; offshore sites can be unsafe or inaccessible.

Late season (often FebApr) is the classic window for pelagic encounters at offshore pinnacles.

Ideal: Clearer water and calmer seas for Koh Rok and Koh Haa day trips.

Plan Carefully: Rougher seas and rain reduce visibility and comfort. Many snorkel tours run less often.

For the best surface conditions, prioritize morning trips and protected lagoon stops.

Ideal: Lower rain risk and comfortable evenings for beach time and exploring by scooter.

Plan Carefully: Expect heavier rain. Roads can be slick, but waterfalls and jungle are greener and crowds are low.

Green season can be a great value if you plan for rain windows and do not need offshore boat trips every day.
