When to go

Best time to visit La Palma

La Palma works yearround, but the easiest planning is May to October for drier weather and outdoor reliability.

Best overall window

May to October

Dry, bright, and comfortable. Late September and October add warmer sea and often lighter winds.

Outside that window

Surface chop can add a little more texture on exposed entries.

Choose your trip style

Start with the overall answer, then switch only when scuba, freedive, snorkel, or topside timing changes the trip in a meaningful way.

AreaBest monthsWhy it changes
Fuencaliente and La Palma Marine Reserve

September to November

The south coast holds the most iconic reserve dives, but it is exposed.

Main caution: Crossings and exposed sites can feel rougher in this stretch.

Los Cancajos and east coast

May to October

Los Cancajos is the practical training and snorkel base, but easterly exposure and boat traffic still require daily condition checks.

Main caution: Surface chop can add a little more texture on exposed entries.

Always true for this destination
  • This destination stays workable through the full year.
  • Surface chop can add a little more texture on exposed entries.
  • Sun exposure stays high even when conditions are easy.
Seasonal cautions
  • Jul to Aug: Summer is dry and popular, but the trade-wind period can make exposed water departures choppy.
  • Nov to Mar: The wetter half of the year is still workable, but Atlantic fronts can affect sea state and highland roads.
