Boat dive a protected nine-island sanctuary, then eat shawarma on the corniche

Overview
Muscat puts world-class boat diving on the doorstep of a comfortable capital city. Most trips focus on the Al Dimaniyyat Islands Nature Reserve, a nine-island marine sanctuary off the Batinah coast, plus nearby reefs and wrecks around Bandar Khayran and Al Fahal Island. Expect coral gardens, turtles, rays, schooling fish, and seasonal whale shark encounters. Logistics are simple: fly into Muscat (MCT), then hop on a morning speedboat from Al Mouj Marina or Marina Bandar Al Rowdha. The Environment Authority requires a paid reserve permit and enforces strict no-take rules, with seasonal limits on landing and camping. On surface intervals, swap fins for forts, souqs, and wadis, or plan an overnight desert escape.
Daymaniyat boat days are realistic even on shorter trips because Muscat is a full-service capital with reliable flights, hotels, and marinas.
Whale shark encounters are seasonal and never guaranteed, but the region is known for a recurring migration window and frequent turtle sightings.
Many operators report the best visibility from October to May, when cooler water usually means less plankton and cleaner reefs.
