Logistics

Use this travel brief to set arrival flow, local transit, and gear movement before you lock your itinerary.

Quick Facts

  • Primary airport: Nadi International Airport (NAN)
  • Typical transfer: 2.5 to 3 hourss by road
  • Entry requirement: Visaexempt nationalities are issued a visitor permit on arrival, while other passport holders must arrange the correct visa or permit before travel.
  • Getting around: Pacific Harbour is spread along the coast, so most dive travelers use resort transfers, taxis, private drivers, or rental cars.

Getting There

Most international visitors fly into Nadi International Airport, then transfer by road along Queens Road to Pacific Harbour. Tourism Fiji describes Pacific Harbour as about two and a half hours from Nadi. Nausori Airport near Suva can be closer by road, but it has fewer international options. Beqa Island resorts normally combine the road transfer to Pacific Harbour with a prearranged boat transfer across the lagoon.

Airports

1

Nadi International Airport

NAN • NFFN

145 km • 2.5 to 3 hourss by road

Fiji's main international gateway on western Viti Levu, served by Fiji Airways and a wider mix of direct and codeshare partners from Australia, New Zealand, North America, Asia, and the Pacific.

Transport: Pre-booked resort transfer, Private driver, Rental car, Intercity bus with local taxi connection

2

Nausori International Airport

SUV • NFNA

70 km • 1 to 1.5 hourss by road

Suva's airport is closer to Pacific Harbour by road and useful for some domestic or regional itineraries, but most long-haul visitors still route through Nadi.

Transport: Private driver, Resort transfer, Rental car, Taxi

Getting Around

Pacific Harbour is spread along the coast, so most dive travelers use resort transfers, taxis, private drivers, or rental cars. Buses connect the Queens Road corridor, but luggage and timing make them less convenient for dive gear. For Beqa Island, your resort boat transfer becomes the key transport link. Night driving on rural roads is best minimized.

Entry Requirements

Visa-exempt nationalities are issued a visitor permit on arrival, while other passport holders must arrange the correct visa or permit before travel. Fiji Airports lists passport validity of at least 6 months beyond planned departure and proof of return or onward travel as required documents. Always re-check official requirements before ticketing because rules depend on nationality and itinerary.

Gear Logistics Checklist

Local dive operators provide tanks and weights on most packages and rent BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, masks, and fins. Bring your own dive computer, certification cards, prescription mask if needed, and any hard-to-fit exposure gear. Shark dives may require dark full-body suits and gloves supplied or approved by the operator. Do not count on computer rental, and check airline baggage rules before flying with lights, batteries, cameras, and regulators.

Practicalities

Currency

Fijian Dollar (FJD)

FJD is the day-to-day currency. Resorts and dive operators may quote some packages in USD, but local taxis, markets, tips, and small purchases are easier in FJD. Cards are accepted at resorts and established operators, but cash is useful for small shops, drivers, and village-linked contributions.

Withdraw cash in Nadi, Suva, or at the airport before heading to Pacific Harbour or Beqa Island. Pacific Harbour has more limited banking access, and island resorts may have no ATM. Keep small notes for taxis, snacks, and tips.

Electricity

240V 50Hz I

Fiji uses the same Type I plug shape as Australia and New Zealand. North American travelers need an adapter and should confirm chargers are dual-voltage before plugging in camera chargers, laptops, or dive lights.

Communications

Vodafone Fiji and Digicel SIMs or eSIMs are the usual options, with airport purchase the simplest. Pacific Harbour has usable mobile coverage, but Beqa Island, boat areas, river canyons, and resort rooms can be patchy. Download maps, ferry or transfer details, and operator contacts before leaving Nadi or Suva.

Language

English is widely used in tourism, education, and communication. iTaukei and Fiji Hindi are also widely spoken. Learn basic etiquette: bula for hello, vinaka for thank you, and cover shoulders and knees for village visits.

Insurance

Carry travel insurance that covers scuba, emergency evacuation, storms, missed connections, and prepaid tours. Divers should add DAN or equivalent dive accident coverage. Confirm whether shark dives, depth limits, freediving, and rafting are included, because exclusions can hide in adventure-sport clauses.

Packing list

Pack certification cards, dive computer, reef-safe sunscreen, dark full-body exposure protection for shark dives, a 3mm or 5mm wetsuit if you get cold, rash guards, reef-safe defog, dry bag, river sandals, light rain shell, modest village clothing, insect repellent, and enough camera batteries for two-tank mornings.
