Scuba

What It Feels Like

Scuba diving here is about accessible Mediterranean variety rather than ultra-remote expedition diving. Saranda's main draw is operator-led boat access to wrecks, reef walls, and cave-like structure, with Saranda Diving and PADI-linked site listings making the area easy to book. SS Probitas is the signature wreck, while Ksamil adds the unusual Six Ship Wrecks area and southern reefs near Butrint.

Signature Sites

Start Here

  • Hunda e Kuqe

A shallower reefstyle dive south of Saranda with structure and marine life that works well for easier second dives and check dives, commonly around {{ 12 | distance:m }} max depth.

Advanced

  • SS Probitas

    A {{ 100 | distance:m }} cargo wreck sunk in 1943, lying very close to shore with shallow sections from about {{ 3 | distance:m }} and deeper structure down to roughly {{ 22 | distance:m }}.

  • Six Ship Wrecks in Ksamil

A cluster of intentionally sunk exmilitary vessels that local operators market as an underwater park, usually dived in roughly {{ 16 | distance:m }} to {{ 30 | distance:m }} with decent summer visibility.

  • Monastery Reef

Often cited as one of the area's classic southern reef dives, with rocky structure and a good complement to wreckfocused itineraries.

Planning Playbook

Operator Checklist

  • Pre-book dive days if you are traveling in July or August.
  • Ask operators which southern sites are running that day, because weather and sea state can change the plan.
  • Carry your own mask, computer, and SMB even if rental gear is included.
  • Treat the destination as remote for dive medicine and choose operators that clearly carry oxygen and have evacuation procedures.
  • If wrecks are your priority, keep one flexible day in the schedule in case wind reshuffles the boat plan.

Conditions Fallback

  • Pre-book dive days if you are traveling in July or August.
  • Carry your own mask, computer, and SMB even if rental gear is included.
  • If wrecks are your priority, keep one flexible day in the schedule in case wind reshuffles the boat plan.

Avoid

  • Do not ignore boat traffic is the main warm-season hazard advisories from local operators.
