Most travelers reach Uepi by flying internationally into Honiara, then connecting on Solomon Airlines to Seghe in Western Province, where the resort arranges a boat transfer across Marovo Lagoon. Honiara is the main international gateway, with routes via places such as Brisbane, Nadi, Port Moresby, and Port Vila. Munda has some international access, but Uepi planning usually still centers on the domestic link to Seghe. Build in connection slack because domestic small-plane schedules, weather, and boat transfers can change.

The small domestic airport used for Marovo Lagoon and Uepi transfers. The next step is an operator-arranged boat crossing rather than road transport.

On Uepi, transport is by foot, resort path, kayak, SUP, or operator boat. In Honiara, use hotel transfers, taxis, minibuses, or car hire. In remote Marovo villages and reef areas, do not self-navigate without local host permission because shorelines, reefs, and fishing areas may be under customary ownership.
Tourism Solomons says many tourists, including eligible US, Commonwealth, and many European travelers, can receive a visitor permit on arrival when holding a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond departure, return or onward travel, funds, and any onward-country documents. Travelers who require a tourist visa should use the Solomon Islands Immigration eVisa process and budget for the official visa and online fees. Rules can change, so verify by nationality before booking domestic flights.
Bring personal dive, snorkel, and freedive gear that must fit well, especially mask, computer, fins, exposure layer, camera O-rings, batteries, prescription items, and spare straps. Rental options exist through operators, but remote stock is limited. Pack critical medicines and a day of dive essentials in carry-on in case checked bags are delayed. Check domestic baggage allowances before carrying cameras, housings, strobes, or long fins.
Solomon Islands Dollar (SBD)
Solomon Islands is still heavily cash-based outside major hotels and resorts. Prepay major resort items when possible, then carry SBD for tips, carvings, village purchases, small incidentals, and any locally handled access costs. Do not assume village sellers can accept cards or foreign cash.
ATMs and currency exchange are easiest at Honiara airport, banks, and major centers. Provincial access is limited, so take the cash you need before flying to Seghe or boarding a remote transfer.

Solomon Islands uses Australian-style three-pin plugs. Bring a universal adapter, dual-voltage chargers, a compact power strip, and enough battery capacity for cameras or dive lights because remote resort power and charging space can be limited.
Communications
Buy a local SIM in Honiara if you need connectivity, but expect patchy coverage in smaller towns and remote areas. Smartraveller notes limited telecommunications and no local eSIM product. Treat Uepi as a semi-disconnect destination, keep key documents offline, and consider a satellite messenger for private yacht or remote extension travel.
Language
English is the official language, and Solomon Islands Pijin is widely used. Around Marovo Lagoon, local languages and village protocols matter. Simple greetings, patience, modest dress, and asking before photos go a long way.
Insurance
Carry comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical evacuation, domestic flight disruption, lost baggage, and water activities. Scuba divers should have dive evacuation and recompression coverage, with DAN or an equivalent specialist policy strongly recommended. Freedivers should confirm that their policy covers breathhold diving and organized training.

Pack light tropical clothing, long-sleeve sun layers, rain jacket, hat, reef-safe sunscreen, mosquito repellent, sturdy sandals or sneakers, torch, dry bag, personal medicines, spare glasses or prescription mask, ear-care supplies, camera spares, and modest village clothing that covers thighs. Put medicines, mask, computer, and one water outfit in carry-on.
