Roatan bank dive with sand patches, coral fingers and easy reef life.
Roatan bank dive with sand patches, coral fingers and easy reef life.
Butcher's Bank is a short-boat Roatan bank dive with a shallow sand garden, coral finger and easy reef route that make the site intuitive to follow. Small critters live in the sand patches while the outer platform and wall bring bigger fish, turtles and open-water views. It works well for slow photography, buoyancy practice and relaxed second dives when you want a reef that rewards a measured pace.

Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
12m - 30m
Depth Note
The inner line sits around 12m and the outer bank can reach about 30m, but much of the appeal stays on the shallow sand and coral edge.
Best Season
Year-round
Typical Conditions
Shallow sand, coral fingers and mild current, with the route opening toward deeper water at the outer bank.
Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.
Safety Notes
Stay oriented to the sand-to-coral transition and keep an eye on the outer edge so the dive does not drift deeper than planned.
Access Restrictions
Best handled as a guided boat dive from West End with an operator familiar with the bank.
Legal Notes
Follow local boat access and marine-park guidance from your operator.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
A line is set at about 12 m at the inner end of the coral finger.
Freediving
Not a freedive-first site; the outer section and depth make scuba the better match.
Snorkeling
Not a snorkel-first site; the main appeal is the shallow sand and coral below the surface.
