Beginner-friendly shore dive with a shallow weed bed and easy lake access.
Berlingen, Bay Watch is a beginner-friendly shore dive on Lake Constance with two stair entries beside the lakeside parking area. The site starts in a very shallow weed bed and then slopes gently across a natural freshwater bottom that stays interesting as you move offshore. It works well for relaxed scuba practice and calm-day snorkeling, but boat traffic, modest visibility and busy warm-day shore use are the main tradeoffs.

Depth range, seasonality, and planning context.
Reported Depth
0m - 20m
Depth Note
Very shallow first section, then a gentle weed-covered slope to about 10m and onward to roughly 20m.
Best Season
Late spring through summer for the most life; winter can be calmer and clearer but less lively.
Typical Conditions
A very shallow nearshore shelf, then a gradual weed-covered slope into deeper water. Calm days are best; wind, boats and surface traffic matter more than current.
Hazards, restrictions, and access requirements.
Key Hazards
Safety Notes
Bring a compass for the long shallow approach and keep gear setup clear of the bike path and parking area.
Access Restrictions
Shared shoreline access and a warm-weather parking lot mean gear setup should stay compact and out of the way.
Legal Notes
Use a visible buoy or flag for open-water ascents and follow shared-lake traffic etiquette.
Community notes to help plan your visit.
Scuba Diving
Carry and deploy a surface marker buoy if making an open-water ascent.
Freediving
Possible only for confident freedivers in calm water near shore, but the site is mainly a scuba and snorkel practice spot.
Snorkeling
The shallow first section can work for calm-day snorkeling, but surface traffic still needs attention.
