Beginner-friendly shore dive opposite Burgh Island.
Challaborough Bay is a beginner-friendly shore dive opposite Burgh Island, with an easy summer snorkel option when the water is calm. The site is all about rocky gullies, kelp beds, and sandy patches that give cuttlefish, bass, spider crabs, and other coastal life plenty of cover. It works best as a relaxed bay dive with simple entry, good training potential, and a weather-sensitive character that changes quickly when wind or tide picks up.
Site Conditions
Safety Notes
Wind can blow straight into the bay and create strong rip and undercurrents. Abort early if the bay turns bumpy or visibility drops off fast.
Access Restrictions
Use the beach entry only when conditions are settled, and stay clear of any surf, launch, or swimmer traffic.
Legal Notes
Use the bay as a shared public beach and dive area; follow local signage and do not interfere with other water users.
